When God Breaks Your Heart

When God Breaks Your Heart

Abraham finally got a son. Then God breaks his heart by telling him to take Isaac to a mountain and kill him.

Genesis 22:2
And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

You too may have been told to do something that has broken your heart but you refused. It doesn’t seem fair. You cry and wonder why. How do you think Abraham felt? All his hopes and dreams for his son were about to disappear. The love for Isaac that he had would have greatly intensified knowing that his child was about to die. Abraham must have felt hopeless and wondered why God would take away his child that he loved.

Regardless, Abraham was obedient. Can you imagine his heart beating? Can you imagine Abraham saying to his son “goodbye, I love you?”

Genesis 22:10- 12
10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
11 And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

God knew that Abraham was completely genuine. He knew he was going to sacrifice Isaac.

In no way am I saying to sacrifice your own child as this was an experience for Abraham. But what has the spirit said to you to give up that you can’t because your heart will be broken?

Genesis 22:16-17
16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

After your heart is broken you may receive something far greater than you ever imagined possible. How many people have missed out on a fantastic blessing from God because you would not sacrifice what you have?

Hebrews 11:6
But without FAITH it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a REWARDER of them that diligently seek him.
